Ceylon Tea makes headway at Hong Kong Trade Fair

Plantation Industries Minister D. M. Jayaratne was in Hong Kong visited the Hong Kong Tea Trade Exhibition held from August 13-15.

He said participation at events such as this was eventful and augured well for the good image of Ceylon Tea.

Issues raised at the conference involving tea producing countries were beneficial and advantageous for the future of the industry globally.

Minister Jayaratne was invited as chief guest and being in charge of the tea industry in Sri Lanka gave added clout to accentuate importance of tea globally. More so that Sri Lanka being the world’s largest exporter of this product additionally placed importance and recognition on the Minister’s visit and that he chaired the conference where 17 tea producing countries were represented.

A special stall for Ceylon Tea was a major attraction at the exhibition.

Jayaratne further said new trade relations could be initiated at conferences such as this and the end result could be beneficial to promotion of tea for greater absorption.

Chairman Sri Lanka Tea Board, Lalith Hettiarachchi, with representatives from seven companies also attended the exhibition in Hong Kong.

Ceylon Tea was served to the delegation attending the conference.

In sum, conferences such as that attended by tea producers could build greater confidence and interaction among such sources that would benefit participants and eventually future of Ceylon Tea, he noted. The Minister said it is now opportune that collaboration with the Tea Research Institute, Tea Exporters and the Tea Board be further strengthened. M. Jayaratne with an invitee at the exhibition.
