Delmege Super League 2004
Seylan and Delmege secure victories

Seylan Bank secured a thrilling one point victory over David Pieris Motor Company in an ‘A’ Division match of the ongoing Delmege Super League Basketball tournament played at the Otter’s basketball court. The scores were levelled at 40 each at half time, but Seylan managed to win 80-79 at the final whistle.

Gayan Samaraweera with 21 points was the top scorer for Seylan, while their new signing, Royalist, Chatura Rodrigo, made an immediate impact scoring 20 points. Manoj Perera made 17. Jude Saranga (20), Sudantha Laksiri (29) and S. T. G. Perera (10) excelled for David Pieris.

In another ‘A’ Division encounter Delmege Group continuing their unbeaten run sunk Nations Trust Bank by 26 points. Delmege were leading 59-49 halfway through the game and won 112-86. Veteran Roshan Gunasekara was the top scorer for Delmege with 30 points, while fellow Benedictine Roshan Randima made 16. Diluk Hemantha scored 10. For NTB, Gayan Meedeniya with 27 points and Meethilan Rajendran with 17 points were the top scorers. Manjula Jayarathne made 15.

Meanwhile, Sampath Bank ‘B’ played Commercial Bank in a yet another keenly contested ‘C’ Division game at the same venue with the former winning by just one point. Sampath were leading 23-21 at half time and won 40-39. S. Jayaweera (10) and S. Mallawarachchi (13) excelled for Sampath while R. Pieris (13) K. Perera (10) did well for Commercial Bank.

Airport Aviation overcame Sri Lankan Airlines (B) in a game of the same division. The victory margin was 10 points and Airport and Aviation were leading 32-19 at the short whistle. The final score was 40-30. For the winners, I. Silva with 19 points and W. Nilan with 11 points excelled while A. Sellar (11) and A. Wijesinghe (06) did well for Sri Lankan Airlines.

Meanwhile, Linea Mas continued with their losing streak in the women’s competition when they suffered another humiliating 51 point defeat at the hands of David Pieris Motor Company. The half time score was a pathetic 38-04. Chamila de Silva was the top scorer for the winners with 14 points while Hansika Fernando and Rukshika Wijesinghe contributed with 11 and 08 points respectively. For Linea Mas, all but two of their points were scored by Gangani Witharanagage.
