Welewatte (102 n.o.) saves Dharmapala

S. Welewatte made a fighting knock of 102 not out as Dharmapala MV, Pannipitiya forced a draw against Richmond College, Galle in their Inter-school cricket fixture ended at Pannipitiya on Sunday.

Richmond made a massive total of 306 for nine wickets and in reply Dharmapala were 66 for 7 overnight and were all out for 147 yesterday in their first innings. They played better in their second innings and were 204 for 4 at close with Welewatte leading the way.

Gayara enters semi-finals

Gayara Jayasuriya entered the semi-finals of the girls’ Under-11 category at the 4th SSC Open Squash Championships which is now in progress at the SSC squash courts in Colombo.

Top seed Jayasuriya made an easy entry into the semis as she defeated N. Rupasinghe in straight sets, 9-0, 9-1, 9-3, in her quarter-final. In another quarter-final match, bottom seed Dilini Nanayakkara outclassed Namya Gunawardena 9-0, 9-0, 9-0 to enter semi-final.

In a quarter-final of the same age group, Premila Rajapakse beat Hasini 9-4, 9-6, 9-7 while Dulakshi Palikawala defeated Kavini Saluka 9-2, 9-1, 9-4 to reach the semis which are scheduled to be held in February 17 from 2 p.m. onwards.
