With bus crews and other staff of 14 SLTB depots
going on strike demanding the pay hike of Rs. 2500 given to
employees in the public sector most of the public transport
services in the rural sector came to standstill yesterday (14).
The three cluster bus companies in Kalutara,
Sabaragamuwa and Uva, who commenced the strike were joined by
and Galle, Ambalangoda, Motratuwa, Udahamulla, Maharagama,
Polonnaruwa, Homagama and Hatton depots yesterday.
The Chairman SLTB Dr. Shantha Jayaratne said he
also agreed that the 2500 rupee pay hike to public sector
employees should be paid to SLTB employees too. But he could not
agree to a strike as a majority of these employees came out on
strike in collusion with some trade unions.
