The Mahamodara Teaching Hospital is functioning
after repairs were effected.
A Health Ministry spokesman said yesterday that
the work had been completed after the December 26 debacle when a
large part of the hospital was damaged by tsunami waves.
The operating theatres and all other units of
the hospital have been disinfected, he said.
Health authorities have taken steps to transfer
back all expectant mothers removed to the Karapitiya Teaching
Hospital (KTH) following the tidal waves. The spokesman said
about 100 pregnant mothers had returned to the hospital.
The strained situation between the KTH and the
MTH over the transferring of the pregnant mothers and those who
are still in hospital after child births from Mahamodara to
Karapitiya too were settled following this, he said.
According to the authorities of the MTH 16
births has taken place after the normal services of the hospital
commenced. (DJ)
