In 2004, the Wayamba Sanvardana
Bankuve (the North Western Provincial Development Bank) earned a
profit of Rs. 204 million, an official report indicates.
There are nearly Rs. 3000 million worth
deposits in the thirty-six branches of the bank.
The report further indicates that over
100,000 individuals and organizations were assisted with loan
facilities.
It is expected to increase deposits by
atleast Rs. 750 million this year.
The North Western Provincial Development Bank
has now become a partner organization of the government’s rural
development programme titled ‘Gemi Pubuduva’ by launching a
separate project for ‘Samurdhi’ beneficiaries, according to the
report.
Also it has set up a special unit for monitoring and
regulating national development activities under its purview at
the grass-roots level.
