The train services on the southern coast line
resumed upto Ambalangoda yesterday (8). Hundreds of railway
employees, including engineers, technical staff and workers
repaired the affected track from Alutgama to Ambalangoda.
The repair work, under the direction of a
special committee, was completed faster than expected and
demonstrated that unity of the management of the railway and its
employees as well as support from other parties such as foreign
troops, who helped to clear debris after the tsunami disaster,
made it possible to achieve good results, Minister of Transport
                Felix Perera said.
He said the work continues without any
interruption and the railway employees have shown much
dedication in their work and if good weather continues for the
coming few Employees worked for long hours without claiming
overtime as a gesture to help the country to overcome the
devastation caused by the tsunami disaster. They would continue
to work for long hours till normal services on the entire
Southern coastal railway line resumes, Railway Department
                sources said.
